VARIETY DOCUMENTARY

A Journey of Hope

Every year the Variety Bash raises much needed funds for children who are impacted by disabilities, illnesses, or who are experiencing disadvantage, extending support to numerous families and organisations by helping to provide specialty equipment and amenities whilst addressing practical needs of kids, schools, and organisations in need, empowering and educating the children who are often overlooked.

Variety: A Journey of Hope, will take the audience on a once-in-a-life-time road trip across some of Australia’s most iconic landscapes, offering an intimate look at the everyday Aussies who support this great cause and are giving something back to kids in need. The documentary will focus on select families and groups, and share their intimate stories of whose life-changing events have brought them together on this journey, and the impact this has on their lives.

From Hamilton, Victoria, we will journey with the Victorian Squad to Adelaide, where the largest gathering of Variety Bash representatives in 40 years will converge from all around Australia, before driving as a convoy to the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin. Following our colourful convoy of vehicles across the outback of Australia for 10 days, we will capture the fun, adventure, mateship and emotion of this great traverse, bringing together a diverse range of new and old friends for this remarkable event.

At its heart, this is a story about everyday Aussies who want to give something back by supporting the people who face adversity on a daily basis, believing in something more than themselves, and making a positive change for those kids that society often neglects.

From picturesque rural towns to charming outback communities, this documentary will offer a unique experience and showcase the beauty and diversity of our beautiful country, along with the people that make it so iconic.

The route will be jam-packed with iconic Aussie tourist destinations, off-road adventures, and will include stops at schools and small towns to show some love along the way.

Join us as we rev our engines, prepare to make a difference, and reunite for the 40th anniversary of this Iconic Aussie charity event.

IT ALL BEGAN IN 1985...

We will provide a short history of the event, from its inception in 1985 by visionary entrepreneur and adventurer, Dick Smith, who spearheaded the extraordinary endeavour known as the Variety Bash, and how from a small group of daring motorists, who embarked on a remarkable journey from Bourke, New South Wales, all the way to Bourketown, Queensland, raised an astounding $250,000 for charitable causes, to 50 years on and over $30 Million raised for kids in need, and more than 100,000 kilometres travelled.

Footage will include interviews with key authorities, supported by select archive footage and photos spanning the entirety of its colourful history.
